When you stop drinking after prolonged alcohol use, your brain and nervous system go through a significant adjustment. Alcohol suppresses your central nervous system — when it's removed, your brain rebounds into a hyperactive state. This is withdrawal, and understanding it is the first step to getting through it safely.

What Is Happening in Your Body

Alcohol acts on GABA receptors in your brain — the receptors responsible for calm and inhibition. Over time, your brain compensates by reducing GABA sensitivity and increasing excitatory signals. When alcohol is removed, those excitatory signals fire unchecked. This is why withdrawal causes anxiety, tremors, sweating, elevated heart rate, and in severe cases, seizures.

Why Vitamins Matter in Withdrawal

Chronic alcohol use depletes critical B vitamins — especially Thiamine (B1), Folate (B9), and B12 — as well as magnesium and zinc. Thiamine deficiency in particular can cause Wernicke's Encephalopathy, a serious neurological emergency. Rebound Vitamins were formulated specifically to replenish these nutrients at therapeutic doses during the withdrawal period. Take your Rebound Vitamins with food twice daily as directed.

When to Seek Emergency Care

Call 911 immediately if you experience: seizures or convulsions, hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that aren't there), severe confusion or disorientation, fever above 101°F, uncontrollable vomiting, or chest pain. These are signs of severe withdrawal (delirium tremens) and require immediate medical attention. Do not wait.
